A definition poem uses similes and metaphors that have powerful visual imagery and emotional impact in order to convey the feeling, as well as meaning, of the word to be defined.
Steps:
1. Identify the topic/concept/vocabulary word you will be writing a definition poem about.
2. Each line of the poem begins with the chosen word and is followed by "is/are" and a true statement or fact.
3. Use the template to assist you in organizing your poem.
Note: Students may need to revise each row several times before you get the right feeling or emotion.
